Injuries and Pre-existing medical conditions

What happens if I have pre-existing injuries?
Having pre-existing injuries does not preclude you from class but it can mean proceed with caution. No one knows your body better than you do, and yogis in my classes are always encouraged to tune into what their body is telling them because it does speak to us clearly.
A new student form’ is completed when booking your first class & this is your opportunity to tell us about any injuries etc which may impact your practice. It’s important to be honest here and don’t assume that what is going on for you is small and insignificant. For example, an ear ache may mean that forward folds become painful or if you suffer from anxiety, the stillness of savasana at the end of class might be challenging for you and alternatives can be offered.
The more I know, the more I can offer to you in the way of support. Bolsters, straps, blocks, altering positions in class or changes to the way I cue, are just some examples of support I can offer.
I also suggest coming to class 10 minutes early so that I can learn more about you and we can discuss if or how we can modify movements for this class and in general.

I have a pre-existing injury, who do you suggest I see?
For injuries, I suggest that yogis see Joe who is a massage therapist from Elite Performance Massage. He is my all-time go to. I have had many yogis tell me that they wished they had seen him sooner and not lived with pain for as long as they did.

Yoga and Pregnancy
Whilst I am qualified to teach pregnant ladies (and have had a pregnant lady attend class up until 32 weeks), it’s important to recognise that there are lots of things going on for pregnant ladies and that every body responds to it differently.
Pregnancy is special and pregnant ladies require a lot of support such as blocks and bolsters, slower pace, avoidance of certain movements etc.
Safety is my priority. So, for those pregnant ladies wanting to start their yoga journey, I Kundalini House in Fitzroy who teach specialised prenatal classes and do it beautifully.
